Home is where they feel safest, so if we hold your family session there, everyone will relax more quickly.
There's no need to tidy up (unless you want to!) The toys on the floor? That's not mess, it's context. One day they will be scanning the background of the photographs for the little clues that remind them of how you once lived.
This isn't about creating 'perfect' photographs, it's about capturing this stage of your family's life together,
Because real life isn't perfect... it can be messy and chaotic,
but it's also funny, silly and filled with love and laughter...
And it's worth capturing & celebrating exactly as it is.
And one day they'll want to look back at the home you created for them. They'll want to remember these days.

FAQ
Do I need to tidy the whole house?
Not at all, however your house usually is will be perfect, I promise! One day I guarantee your children will be scanning the background of photographs to look for clues about how you once lived. I always say, imagine a good friend is coming around for a few hours, and prepare the house as much, or as little, as you would for them! If you are someone who prefers your house to be looking perfect in these contexts, feel free to tidy, if you're more relaxed about it, that's fine too.
HOw much guidance do you give during the session?
This totally depends on what would make your family most comfortable. We will plan the session in advance- then, if you want me to simply capture your family on a typical day at home, I can turn up and capture whatever I see. If you'd like more guidance, I can suggest games, prompts and guide you to where the light is best. I personally prefer to guide families with actions rather than stiff poses. We can adapt the approach according to how the session flows on the day! I'll have prompts and games up my sleeve if you need them.
I'm worried our house is too small/ too cluttered to look good in photos.
I doubt it's too small - honestly all I need for our session is one room with good light- anything else is a bonus. I have wide angle lenses specifically for shooting indoors and in small spaces. We can always go outside into the garden or a local park if we want some variety in the images or if the little ones need to run off some steam... but starting at home always makes the session start in the most relaxed way.
Is our normal life really interesting enough?
Oh my gosh, yes! My absolute favourite things to photograph are the little details of family life. I truly believe that it's rarely the big milestones that we think about when we look back, it's typically the small moments - the way they hold their arms up to be picked up, the way their hair sticks up after a nap- these are the things I look for and love to capture the most. Also, it will never be boring when little ones are around; children are hilarious and silly and always surprise us.
