CREATIVE PORTRAITS

double exposures, composites and silhouettes.

"We are, as a species, addicted to story. Even when the body goes to sleep, the mind stays up all night, telling itself stories."

Sometimes when you want to show a fundamental truth, telling the literal truth isn't the only way of going about it.
Stories, fabrications and re-creations can hold a powerful mirror up to people and reality.
We are all storytellers- we create narratives, we fill in the gaps, we think and talk in terms of association, metaphor and simile.
How we remember, even how we see the world, is a creative process. Your family photographs can be creative, artistic representations of reality too.
Photographic tools such as double exposure, creative lighting techniques, or composites can allow me to capture the essence of a person - or whole family- in a new and different way.
I often think about my own children as little wildings. They both love nature and it has been a vital part of their childhood.
They attended an incredible outdoor preschool where they spent the whole time outside. This was an important part of their story.
I have countless photographs that show this literal truth: pictures of them fishing in the river, exploring woodland and ending up covered in mud.
I also created double exposures of each of them fused with a view of the forest in which they played.
These hang opposite the bed in our room. I look at them every day. Double exposures repay repeated viewings and can capture dynamic and ambiguous connections between people and ideas, the fundamental dualism of human beings, in a special and unique way.
I also created series of multiple exposures based upon the four elements of earth, air, water and fire.

If you'd like a creative portrait of your child or family, let's chat.
I can create images based upon a favourite location, hobby or interest.
If you're having an in-home or outdoor session, and you'd also like me to capture some images for a multiple exposure or silhouette, let me know-
it only takes five minutes or so at the end of the session to get a basic silhouette which can form the basis for this type of image.
Pricing for these images can vary depending on what kinds of images you would like me to fuse together.
