I photographed the dreamiest motherhood session last week; a Mum with a 4-month-old little boy and a two-year-old girl. I met them at their home in Marlow and spent just over an hour with them, documenting their life as it is right now.

During maternity leave we often take so many photographs of our children, but how often are we in the photos with them? I think it's just as important to document our motherhood as it is their childhood, so these kinds of sessions are really special to me.

The baby was napping when I arrived, which was perfect as the initial part of the session could be all about the two-year-old.

It can be hard for the older sibling if it feels as though baby is getting more attention, so having time with the older one first worked really well. The little girl was keen to show me her bedroom and toys, and she and her mum soon settled into their favourite activities: reading together, playing with mum's make-up and tickle play fights!

Then the baby woke up- and he was the smiliest, happiest little guy. Sometimes I speak to Mums who think they missed the boat if they didn't get newborn pictures done, but honestly, around 4 months is such a perfect age for photographs. Baby is aware and smiling but can't yet sit or move around. It also allows the family some time to get into a routine and for Mum to feel a bit more herself after pregnancy and birth, with all the crazy hormones!

As a Mum myself I know how quickly things change, so it's so wonderful to have a visual record of this time. These two little ones won't remember this year of their lives- so it will be so lovely one day for this mama to show them photographs of how she took care of them and all their favourite activities at this stage.

Motherhood sessions are my new favourite.

Don't worry about your house looking perfect- you will be amazed at how much variety we can get in the photographs in just one room and with one good window.

And my sessions are always child or baby-led, so we will go at the pace of your little ones. I always leave time around each session just in case any children are unsettled or need a little time to warm up to me.

They can be as guided or candid as you want- reach out and I can explain the options. I'm offering a special rate for weekday sessions through the summer!

(P.S. Even though I'm calling these motherhood sessions, Dad is welcome to join in too...)
